Elevated platforms, or aerial platforms, can be raised very high in order to reach normally inaccessible areas. This makes work easier, but also increases the risk of falls or other height-related injuries. Be sure you are properly trained to keep you and the people around you safe whilst operating an elevated platform.

TLILIC2005 – Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more) (EWP)

Course Description

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a boom-type elevating work platform where the length of the boom is 11 metres or more.
Boom-type elevating work platform means a telescoping device, hinged device, or articulated device, or any combination of these, used to support a platform on which personnel, equipment and materials may be elevated.
A person performing this work is required to hold a boom-type elevating work platform high risk work (HRW) licence.
This unit requires a person operating a boom-type elevating work platform to plan the work, conduct routine checks, set up elevating work platform, operate elevating work platform, and shut down and secure elevating work platform.

Entry requirements

To obtain an EWP licence the following criteria apply:
  • Must be able to understand and speak English.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • You will need to supply a form of photo ID. Either drivers licence or current passport.
  • Basic English literacy and numeracy skills at a level sufficient to read and interpret workplace documentation (tested on enrollment)
  • Wear appropriate clothing and steel-toed boots or similar appropriate footwear
  • Need to study the learners guide
